Why study Banking

Banking, a career option in finance, is one of the main drivers of economic activity in every country around the world, and as such, it offers promising career opportunities for students. Students will learn the operations and management of commercial banks. Services rendered by banks, and regulatory and industry trends are also covered. Therefore, a degree in finance with a concentration in banking adds an additional flavor to the traditional finance degree.

All faculty in this program have a Ph. D or a DBA in Finance, and routinely publish in some of the top academic journals in finance and related disciplines. In addition, professional bankers, and a representative of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, take turns to deliver a seminar style lecture to student on current state of affairs and best practices in the banking sector.

Faculty-led experiential opportunities provide student access to real-world connections and experiences within the field of Finance. Experiences include: Govs on Banking, Govs Fund, guest lectures from industry leaders and community experts, and participation at academic conferences including the Tennessee Bankers’ Credit Conference in Nashville.

The College of Business provides funding and scholarship opportunities for students to participate at community events like the Tennessee Bankers’ Credit Conference, academic conferences, and networking functions. Students also have direct access to the College of Business Career Readiness Coach, who helps with career advising, preparation, and job search.
